Never mind Amazon vs. Macmillan, let's talk authors!

So the whole Amazon vs. Macmillan fracas has accomplished three things for me, as of last night:
One, I have bought a nook. The cost of said nook as well as a loverly cover to put it in is roughly about the same as the amount of royalties I have now received for Faerie Blood, and to a tiny degree, Defiance.
(Which of course means that this is the Nook That Faerie Blood Bought, folks. That you all helped me buy. And for this, I thank you all! Watch this space for a forthcoming new poll on what exactly I should name the Nook, and a likely giveaway for a randomly selected winner!)
Two, I’ve also bought five, count ‘em, five ebooks by Macmillan authors, up on Fictionwise.
Three, and because I’m really in the mood to show some love directly to awesome authors, I have thrown ten bucks at the current efforts of to sell her commissioned novella “Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight”. It’s set in her Old Races universe and features Janx and Daisani, and she’s selling it directly off her site for ten bucks a pop this month. Hie ye over here and show her some support, y’all!
“But Anna,” I hear you cry, “ten bucks a pop for a novella? Isn’t that more than I’d be paying for a paperback?” Yes. Yes it is. But the beauty of this is, since Kit is selling it directly, she gets every last penny, and since she has an established track record of about a dozen books’ worth of awesome, I’m pretty damn sure $10 for a novella full of her words will be worth the price.
Also, she’s Kit. So go, my Internet armies! And tell her I sent you!
We have a winner!

Folks, I would now like to take this opportuity to announce the winner of my October Drollerie Review Drawing Contest! I had a total of five participants who checked in, four of whom did reviews in various places, and one of whom rated me on Fictionwise. So without further ado, the random number generator announces that the winner is… Lexie!
Lexie, please send me email with your preferred book vendor so I know where to get you your gift certificate from, and also, give me your email address so I know where to send it! You can find my own email address on my Contact page. You have until Wednesday the 4th to claim your prize, otherwise I will pick another winner!
Meanwhile, everybody else who participated in the drawing, thank you very much! I will definitely do more drawings, timed as my personal budget allows. I may well do another one in December.
Reminder: the Review Contest is still on!

I’ve had a bit of response come in on this (thanks much to Nancy, , Marian, and Lexie, who will all be in the drawing!), but wanted to issue a general reminder to everybody else:
My Drollerie Review contest is still on until October 31st! You still have time to get in on the $20 gift certificate goodness. So if you’ve read a Drollerie book this month–maybe you got in on our sale?–and you’d like to participate, just drop a comment on this post with a pointer to where you’ve publically reviewed or rated what you’ve read. I’ll do the drawing for who gets the gift certificate on November 1st!
Screenshot help for the Faerie Blood/Drollerie review contest

|
Hi folks! If you want to send me a screenshot of evidence that you’ve rated/reviewed Faerie Blood or any other Drollerie work, this is a post to walk you through how to do that. Those of you who know how to do this already, no worries, you can go about your business.
Ebook drawing contest update!
| October 4, 2009 | Posted by annathepiper under Drollerie Press, Faerie Blood |
Folks, I’m seeing a distinct lack of reaction so far to my proposed drawing for a $20 gift certificate! So in order to give y’all more time to maybe get a hold of a Drollerie book and get it properly reviewed, I am hereby extending the contest to the end of this month. That’ll mean you have until October 31st to read and review any Drollerie book–it doesn’t have to be mine!–and get me evidence of your review to get into the drawing.
Spread the word! And don’t forget, all our ebooks are on sale right now over at drolleriepress.com, so you can pick up a lot of ebooks cheap!
And oh yes, since I was asked this on my original contest post: I’ll accept previously posted reviews, I think, if you show me evidence of newly pointing people at said reviews. (Such as on your blog/journal, a forum post, something on Twitter or Facebook, etc.) My goal here is to encourage spreading the word about Drollerie, and previously written reviews, while fabulous, are already out there working to spread the word. I’d like to see new word being spread! And, of course, if you’ve already written reviews of Drollerie work, don’t let this stop you from writing brand new ones of different books.
Another Faerie Blood/Drollerie contest!
| September 28, 2009 | Posted by annathepiper under Drollerie Press, Faerie Blood |
In honor of the forthcoming sale at Drollerie Press (scheduled for October 3rd through October 17th), I am hereby announcing my next contest.
Anyone who reviews or rates either Faerie Blood or any other Drollerie Press work, and sends me proof that they have done so, will be entered in a random drawing for a $20 gift certificate to the book vendor of your choice. In particular, if you select Drollerie, this’ll be twenty bucks you can spend on a whole bunch of tasty on-sale ebooks!
My iPhone's official name: Mnemosyne!
| July 28, 2009 | Posted by annathepiper under Faerie Blood |
The poll to name my iPhone officially closed last night, and the winner of the poll was Mnemosyne! This means is the winner.
The companion contest is also therefore officially closed, and wins that for the in-character Petalwing portayal.
Y’all please to send me email at annathepiper AT gmail DOT com and let me know whether you would like a free copy of Faerie Blood, or else a free copy of the book of your choice from the Drollerie Press bookshop.
If you’d like Faerie Blood, please let me know your preferred format. If you’d like a different book, please let me know which one you’re interested in from the shop and I’ll set you up with a Drollerie gift certificate for the correct amount!
Thanks all for participating, and I’ll do another contest some time soon!
Companion contest for naming my iPhone!
| July 20, 2009 | Posted by annathepiper under Faerie Blood |
Folks, I have decided to hold a companion contest to go along with the poll to name my iPhone! This one will be for everybody who did NOT get a name into the poll. However, what makes it a companion contest is that I want to see supporters for various names campaign for their favorites!
The original poll post is here. Check that out for the full list of names as well as the current voting results!
Rules as follows:
- The stakes are the same: the winner will receive either a copy of Faerie Blood, or, if he or she owns it already, a copy of the book of their choice from the Drollerie Press bookshop.
- Campaigns should be in the form of drabbles (100 words of prose, for those of you who don’t know that term), LOLpics (with or without cats), filks, rousing campaign speeches, or whatever else comes to mind! Bonus points if you invoke any of my known fandoms*. Extra bonus points if you invoke anything having to do with Faerie Blood, for those of you who have read it already.
- Campaigns must be for names that are in the actual poll. No fair campaigning for a name that’s not actually in the running!
- Please post your campaign material in the comments of this post (at angelakorrati.com, if you’re reading this on LJ or anywhere else I mirror to).
- If you have a name entered into the poll, you are not eligible to participate in this contest. You are however welcome to shamelessly rally your supporters to your cause!
- This contest will expire along with the poll one week from today on Monday, July 27th.
So get cracking, people, campaign season is ON!
* Good fandoms to invoke: Great Big Sea, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Elfquest, Pern, Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Star Wars, Star Trek (TOS), Temeraire, Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, zombies!
One more week on the name my iPhone poll!

I think probably all of y’all who will be voting on it have already done so, but just in case there are any of you who haven’t voted yet, the poll to name my iPhone is still open and will be running until the 27th.
Those of you who have names in the running, be sure you yourselves have voted! And feel free to put forth shameless campaigning in the comments to sway any last minute deciders. Be creative. I may well be tempted to give a consolation prize to the most creative campaign attempt!
