Kickstarter update: Thirty-four percent!
| April 18, 2012 | Posted by annathepiper under Uncategorized |
I woke up this morning to discover that we’d cracked the $1500 mark! 32 supporters now, and 34 percent funding! This is an excellent place to be within the first two days of the project!
I’d like to give specific mad props to the folks who have claimed higher-tier rewards, because you all are going to have first crack at the extra novella I will be making available for patrons of this project!
Here, have a sample! For those of you who’ve been following my blog already, this is the first scene from the as of yet untitled novella about the psychic Elizabeth Breckenridge, who’s recruited by Ross Taggart to help him find out what murdered his Warder sister in Providence, Rhode Island.
As with my last sample post, this link will click over to a PDF. This is publicly readable, too, in the hopes that if you’re not supporting the Kickstarter yet, you’ll consider chipping in–and if you ARE already supporting, take note, your pledge level CAN be changed! I’m just sayin’!
One last thing though–if I get funding fast enough, or if we go over the goal especially, I will consider dropping this novella down to be a reward at the $50 tier. In other words, if you put in for both paperbacks of the novels, you’d get the novella too! So if you find that tempting, think about spreading the word!
Kickstarter update! Sample chapters!
| April 17, 2012 | Posted by annathepiper under Bone Walker, Faerie Blood |
I am thrilled, thrilled I tell you, to report that within 24 hours of launching the Faerie Blood and Bone Walker Kickstarter, we’ve already cracked $1,000 in pledges. This means we are a quarter of the way there already. And to celebrate, I feel some sample chapters coming on! I’m going to post these as available to all comers, in the hopes that if you haven’t pledged yet, these will motivate you to do so!
If you haven’t read Faerie Blood yet, here, have Chapter 1!
If you have read Faerie Blood, I give unto you (the as of yet unedited, so this is the rough draft, y’all) Chapter 1 of Bone Walker!
Both links will take you to PDFs. Posting in that form for the sake of brevity of post, and for also ensuring that you won’t accidentally click on spoilers! Enjoy, all, and thank you for your support!
The Faerie Blood/Bone Walker Kickstarter is now LIVE!

Ladies and gentlemen, I am thrilled to announce that the Faerie Blood and Bone Walker Kickstarter project is now LIVE! Clickie on the link to see the project, including the awesome video Dara put together for me, and the list of all the shiny rewards Kiri Moth and I will be offering!
Many thanks to David Sklar, Sarah Avery, and Gary Inbinder, my fellow former Drollerie authors, for providing such wonderful blurbs. Many thanks to JoSelle Vanderhooft who’ll be tackling the edits for Bone Walker as soon as I finish it, and to Kiri Moth for her ongoing amazing work on the cover art! Most of all, huge props to my beloved Dara for her excellent work on the video!
If you want to support the project, be advised that you will need an Amazon.com account for it to work, since that’s how Kickstarter collects its payments. If you do not have an Amazon account, please consider bribing a friend with an account to do it for you!
And even if you can’t support financially, spreading the word to your own blogs and journals, Facebook pages, Twitter feeds, Tumblrs, etc., will still be very, very helpful. So please, by all means, share the project link with unbridled abandon!
Let’s do this thing, people. And thank you all very, very much for your support!
Kickstarter update!

I am delighted to report that as of last night, Dara handed me what we think will be the final version of the video for my Kickstarter project. We’re waiting on one last bit of feedback to see if Dara needs to tweak the text captions–but other than that, people, I’m about ready to have the nice folks at Kickstarter approve this thing. Once they do, I CAN GO LIVE.
I’ve lined up a bunch of lower-tier rewards geared around the ebook and print copies of Faerie Blood and Bone Walker, as well as the postcard and poster reproductions of Kiri Moth’s art. At the top of the lower tier of rewards, we’re talking an extra novella as well–this’ll be the as of yet untitled story of Elizabeth Breckenridge, my psychic, who must help Ross Taggart solve the murder of his Warder sister. I’ll be offering this as a reward since it’s already partly written, and I am confident I’ll be able to finish it up to offer for all y’all who might be thinking of supporting at high enough levels!
Limited upper tier rewards will feature the original preliminary sketches of the artwork of both books, as well as the pencil-and-ink original of the final artwork for both books. AND, I will be offering one of my two print copies of the Drollerie edition of Faerie Blood, signed by me of course, at this level as well. Everybody who throws in for any of this level of reward will also get everything up to the $100 level–i.e., both books, as well as the postcard, poster, and digital versions of the art.
And the highest-tier, crazytalk level rewards will involve things like getting your name on the Dedication page, or having a character named after you in the third book of the Faerie Blood trilogy, or if you’re feeling really ambitious, you can commission a Warder universe novella with a character named after you.
So yeah, we’re getting REAL close, so watch this space for events as they happen! And speaking of getting close, we’re ALSO closing in on the final cover art for Faerie Blood. Check it out, this is the last round of art that Kiri sent me!

Test print copies of Faerie Blood! Whoa!
| March 31, 2012 | Posted by annathepiper under Bone Walker, Faerie Blood |
Okay, I say this entirely cognizant of how I am a big ol’ geek and of how much I loves me my ebooks: whoa, it gave me a bit of a shiver when

These, O Internets, are the only two print copies of the Drollerie edition of Faerie Blood that will ever exist. Dara and I have had Third Place Press print them up so that we could have a prop for the Kickstarter video we’re about to do–to show you exactly what the machine they use to make books can produce! And even knowing this, knowing these aren’t really the “official” printed copies of the book I’d like to share with you all, the sight of them still made me go holy crap this is a book with my name on it, in a way that the Drollerie ebook on my Nook or my iPad or iPhone never has.

I cannot wait to see the second edition of Faerie Blood, complete with Dara’s full layout and Kiri Moth’s awesome cover art, in this printed form. And I really hope y’all will get as big a kick out of it as I will, and jump in on the Kickstarter when it goes live! Join me, won’t you? Thank you!
Ahoy, beta readers! All hands on deck!

I have just completed my proofing sweep through Dara’s layout of Faerie Blood, the second edition–and now Dara and I need your help, people!
We need at least three sets of eyes to read over the PDF for us. Unlike with Lament of the Dove, what we need here is not big-picture proofing–this time we do in fact need nitpicky, fine-tooth-comb level inspection! We’re looking for any layout problem here, whether big or small, so that Dara can adjust it in the final version.
Also, since I’m updating “present day” in this edition of Faerie Blood, I’ve had to adjust various references to time. Anyone who has the book’s first edition handy and who would like to sanity-check the changes I’ve made, that would be very good as well.
So if you’d like in, email me or DM me on the social network of your choice, and I’ll send you the PDF! Note that the only modifications we expect to have to do at this point are to add the names of any appropriate Kickstarter supporters to the Dedication page and to the Acknowledgements. But other than that, the text should be considered final.
SURRENDER THE MANUSCRIPT!

Time to get down to Serious Business, people. I have to hand over Bone Walker to JoSelle on April 15th. Which means I have to write like a Crazy Writing Thing until then, because I’m still only about 32K in on this book. It is therefore now Crunch Mode time on the novel.
Which means also that I’m backing off hard on social networks until further notice. This means keeping tabs on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Tumblr, LJ Friends list posts, or Dreamwidth reading list posts is just going to have to wait. If you need to get in touch with me, DM me on the network of your choice, or else just email me directly, since I will be monitoring my email.
But until you hear from me otherwise, people, I’m going to chugging through the rest of Bone Walker, as well as continuing to work with

And oh yes, I did just drop 635 words on Chapter 11 of Bone Walker tonight. I mention this not because of that number, but because of what happened in the words in question: i.e., I just hit Kendis’ first occurrence of telling Christopher she loves him. I was not expecting it at this point in the story, but it felt appropriate, so there ya go!
More bulletins as events warrant!
Good gods this is going to be a book cover!

I’m getting excited over here, people, I gotta say. Because OMG OMG OMG look what Kiri Moth sent me tonight! (Those of you on the social networks, you saw this already, but here it is for LJ and DW and blog and Goodreads peeps!)
It’s a mockup, I know, but HOLY CRAP it’s starting to sink in for me that I’m going to have an actual, honest-to-gods, drawn-by-a-professional-artist book cover. ON MY BOOK. That I’m going to be printing and making for all of you folks out there! I can’t wait to fire up the Kickstarter. Dara and I need to make a video, the last thing I need to do before submitting the project for review. And this shiny, shiny thing from Kiri is going to figure prominently in the You Want to Support My Kickstarter, Don’t You? Video of Awesomeness.
Because I mean damn. I’m swooning over this already and this is just the mockup, people! I cannot wait to see what it looks like in final full-color glory!
And now, some signal boosting for awesome people

Because every so often I’d like to plug things being done by my fellow authors!
First up, for those of you who’re on Goodreads, my fellow formerly-Drollerie author Gary Inbinder is running a two-week ad on the Goodreads site to plug his books Confessions of the Creature and The Flower to the Painter. If you happen to see this ad, please clickie! And even if you don’t see the ad, please consider adding Gary’s books to your Goodreads To Read shelves. I’ve read Confessions of the Creature and quite liked it as a followup to Frankenstein; The Flower to the Painter is on my queue.
Second, S.L. Gray, who I am pleased to note as one of the several writers who’ve come out of the Willowholt Tribe I ran way back in the day, has a Kickstarter going to resurrect an old novel of hers, The Dragon Undone. Go check her out and give her some support love, people! As you may guess, Kickstarters are currently Highly Relevant to My Interests, but so is supporting writers of my Tribe. Tell her I sent you!
Third, if you’re a fan of the work of Francesca Lia Block, you might want to be aware that she’s in danger of losing her home. Looks like she’s yet another American whose home has gone underwater and her bank’s not playing nice. Click over on the link to read up more about her situation, and if you’re so inclined, sign the petition they’ve set up on Change.org on Ms. Block’s behalf.
