I have a cunning plan

Which is to say, I’m going to take the entire week of Labor Day off since I have the vacation time to spare, and work on finishing my edits. To further this goal, I will be also dropping off the net for the duration of that week. I’ll still be answering email, but I won’t be monitoring Twitter, Facebook, or Google+, and for the most part I’ll only be answering email sent directly to me (as opposed to any of the mailing lists I’m on, or comments on any of my posts).
Noting this now by way of general accountability. I may post status updates during that week–again, for purposes of accountability–but I can’t guarantee I’ll answer any comments on them.
We’ll see how much I can get done before then; any little bit I can get done before does after all further the goal. And anything I can write above and beyond finishing the edits on Lament will be bonus. Christopher and Kendis are looking VERY expectant in the back of my brain, you know.
So there you have it. If you think you might want to get a hold of me during that week for whatever reason, email, text, or phone will be best! If you think you should have those means of contacting me and you don’t, let me know.
I’m on Google+ now

If you’re there, feel free to look for me as “Angela Korra’ti” or via either of my gmail addresses. Thanks to both

Mind you, I didn’t really need a whole new social network to keep track of. And I’m pretty sure that at least for a while, this one will suffer the same problem that all the clones of LJ do, including Dreamwidth: i.e., that it won’t get really interesting unless there’s a critical mass of people that move to it. But hey, now I’m at least part of the initial wave. We’ll see what happens.
Norwescon 34: Made of epic and awesome

So here’s a super-quick summary of the various awesome things about Norwescon 34, this past weekend:
- At least a couple people seem to have taken my Faerie Blood cards off the freebie rack, because two more people have added me on Goodreads. Thank you, Goodreads adders!
- I did actually sell one of my Faerie Blood CDs, on Sunday afternoon while I was waiting for
! Thank you, nice lady in fairy dress who stopped to talk to me in the lobby, and I hope you enjoy the book.
solarbird - Dara got props from the Seattle Geekly podcast for the awesomeness of her music programming!
- I discovered that nerdcore is, in fact, pretty cool.
- My and Dara’s friend
took Best in Show for her Na’vi costume at the Masquerade! Go Torrey!
tereshkova2001 (Mira Grant) up for Best Novel Hugo for Feed! BOOYA!
seanan_mcguire- I volunteered officially for the first time ever. I got over 15 hours helping Dara by running water to various performers, and by helping man the merch table as well! This netted me several free books and a shirt. Go me!
- Stood in line for nearly two hours to get books signed by
and his wife Shannon. Worth EVERY MINUTE. Also got to get a book signed by the awesome
jimbutcher , and said hello to Mary Robinette Kowal as well. Told her I very much looked forward to reading my copy of her book.
katatomic - Bought several awesome shirts, including one of Jayne’s shirts from Serenity and a new Matt Smith Doctor Who shirt!
- Got a mass market copy of
‘s (Benjamin Tate’s) Well of Sorrows, bought directly from him after a great panel on ebooks. He very kindly signed it for me right then, too! Thanks, Joshua!
jpsorrow - Had the pleasure of meeting Heather Dale and her husband Ben, and watching them do a joint double set with
and
vixyish and
tfabris and
solcita . Bought a couple more of Heather’s CDs and a shirt, and she very kindly signed a CD for me as well. Her song about Sedna, the Inuit goddess of the sea, was GREAT. She is now clearly part of the ongoing conspiracy to make all my favorite music Canadian.
stealthcello
- My and Dara’s favorite Barcon quote: VODKA OF THE RIGHTEOUS! APPLE TINIS OF THE JUST!
All in all this was a very, very enjoyable convention and I look forward to doing more Actual Volunteering next year! And maybe doing some actual readings or something. ‘Cause, like, I have a book and stuff.
Hello Norwescon!

Taking a moment to put up a post before having dinner, just to say that I’ve left assorted business cards on the freebie table and the flyer rack here at Norwescon. If anybody happens to pick one up and comes by this site to visit, hello and welcome, and I hope your convention is being awesome so far!
If you HAVE come by because of Norwescon and you’re interested in buying my book, arrange to find me before EOD on Sunday and I’ll sell you one of my small number of Faerie Blood CDs. That will get you an ePub AND a PDF of the book, both DRM-free, along with a free short story, “The Disenchanting of Princess Cerridwen”. I’m offering Norwescon attendees a special price of $5 per disk!
So say hi if you are at the con and you see this, and tell me how your con is going! Better yet, find me and do it in person.
Off to Norwescon this evening, find me there

Not doing anything in any sort of official “writer” capacity–but I’ll be showing up at various panels out of basic interest, and hope to see any of y’all who might be reading this there.
Look for me in particular at any panels where the redoubtable
katatomic
jimbutcher
I’ll also have the last six Faerie Blood CDs with me, so if anybody who’ll be at the con wants one, bug me about that! And I’ll leave a lot of my business cards on the freebie table as well.
Please also do bug me if you want to meet up for a meal or a snack or something. Those of you who I know locally anyway probably already have my cell number for texting purposes. But if you don’t and you want it, shoot me an email with how I can reach you, and we’ll meet up! (Gmail is my preferred email address, annathepiper as always.) I’m busy early Thursday evening, when I’ll be having dinner with

See you all there, I hope!
Fellow writers who own iPads, represent!

One of the things I’m thinking of doing with mine is seeing if I can write effectively on it. So if you’re a writer and an iPad owner (first OR second generation model), I’m very interested in hearing about whether you find them effective writing devices! If so, what apps do you use? I’ve kind of liked Documents To Go on my iPhone and I plan to see how well I can use it on the iPad, but I’m open to other suggestions as well!
What I’ve been doing lately instead of writing

Anybody who knows me at all knows I am a raving fan of Great Big Sea, the folk band from Canada. And anybody who pays attention to GBS’ various official online presences will know that they have a karaoke video contest in progress for their fans!
Last night, my partner
solarbird
If you read and liked Faerie Blood, please consider checking out the videos! Great Big Sea was a huge influence on the development of that book, and Christopher in particular. And stick around–’cause if we get onto the finalists list, determined by judges, then it’ll be up to popular vote to see who wins. And I’ll be calling on you all for help!
Did I mention the part where the prize for the contest is four spots on the band’s guest list to one of their forthcoming shows? Consider that mentioned! And always, folks, I thank you for your support!
(Not crossposted anywhere, because if you follow me elsewhere, you’ll have seen me squeeing about this already! And once the contest is over, I swear I’ll get back to working on Bone Walker!)
If anyone will be at Norwescon…

… and if you might happen to see me, please feel free to say hi. I won’t be doing anything formal-like related to the convention, I’m just attending like everybody else, but I’m in the mood to maybe see and talk to new faces. I’ll be seeing if I can show up at any e-pub related panels that might happen to be going on; failing that, I’ll probably be hanging out in suitable places to people-watch while I try to poke at words, either on my iPhone or my black MacBook. I’ll be the blonde chick in the dark blue-and-green velvet cap with a leaf pin on it. Chances that I’ll be wearing a Doctor Who shirt with David Tennant on it are extremely high!
So yeah. Hope to see some of you at the convention this weekend!
Outer Alliance spotlight on me!
| December 4, 2009 | Posted by annathepiper under About Me |
Check it out, you guys! The kindly , @omgjulia on Twitter, the driving force behind the Spotlight posts on outeralliance.org, has just put one up on, well, me! *^_^*;;
She winged me these questions the weekend just before Thanksgiving, and this was lovely turnaround time in getting the article posted. Go read if you like, and while you’re over there, don’t forget to check out the rest of the Spotlight posts on Outer Alliance authors!
General greetings to new readers, and also, Nanowrimo!

I’d like to issue a general shoutout to a bunch of the folks from the Outer Alliance. We’ve all been going on a Friending spree lately and checking out each other’s journals, and several of y’all are now listening in here via Livejournal. LJ people already reading, please feel free to drop a comment and say hi to the new folks. And if you’re actually reading this from angelakorrati.com, hi as well and don’t feel shy; grab a chair, raise a jar, and drop a comment to introduce yourself.
Anyway, for those of you just tuning in, I’m Angela Korra’ti, a.k.a. Anna the Piper, and wherever you’re reading me from, I’m the author of Faerie Blood from Drollerie Press. When I’m not posting on angelakorrati.com about my writing, I am posting from annathepiper.org about everything else. By “everything else”, I generally mean “Great Big Sea, periodic jam sessions at my house, and books”. Lots and lots of books. You’ll see me post a lot of book reviews as I endeavor to top my annual goal of 100 books per year.
Right now though I’m probably about to enter extensive radio silence, given that Nanowrimo is upon us, and I need to start work on Faerie Blood‘s sequel. I will endeavor to post regular updates on my progress, and I’m also officially signed up on the Nanowrimo site as annathepiper. Feel free to keep tabs on my progress in either place! And for those of you who are also tackling Nanowrimo this year, good luck!
