In case you haven't bought Faerie Blood yet…

Consider this your early warning that some time next month, rumor has it that Drollerie Press will be having a massive, MASSIVE sale. We’re talking $1.99 for all novel-length works, and for shorter pieces, 50% off!
Shiny, no? So if you’ve been waffling about whether or not to buy Faerie Blood, Elessir tells me to tell you that you ain’t gonna get him much cheaper.
And I’d also like to take this opportunity to highly, highly encourage you to think of picking up The Chocolatier’s Wife, which I have reviewed over here, and which I am here to tell you is quite, quite tasty. Or if horror is to your taste, you might think about The Revenant Road or Scars on the Face of God. Like some paranormal suspense? Still Life With Devils is your book.
Personally, from an author’s perspective I’m not a fan of sales. Fictionwise, for example, on occasions chops the price on everything and takes it out of the author’s royalties. Amazon, OTOH, pays the agreed upon royalty even when they discount the book from list, eating that lower price themselves.
Just something to think about.
And I went to your publisher’s site and saw two things of interest:
1: They talked about The Outer Alliance. I’ve mentioned it to my own GLBT friendly publisher.
2: 4 to 6 months to hear back on a submission. Ouch!
I had been curious about their royalty structure, but I didn’t see that listed.
Eh, well, Fictionwise won’t be participating in our sale anyway–my editor found out that they won’t let us drop the prices on our books up there. But that’ll give us plenty of space to play on drolleriepress.com itself, as well as other vendors we’re working with that will let us have sale prices. It’ll be good for us–Drollerie needs the exposure.
Yep, I posted earlier about the Outer Alliance myself, on the same day my editor did. I signed up. It seemed the right thing to do.
Re: 4-6 months on a submission–eh, keep in mind a few things.
One, we’re a very small publisher that is open to quite a few different types of work, and more importantly, my editor takes submissions by email. This means she is hammered, and I mean hammered, by submissions. Also, although there are a couple other Drollerie staffers, my editor is pretty much the front line of defense for going through the actual submissions and figuring out if she wants them. This takes a very, very long time if you’re for all intents and purposes a one-woman operation.
Given this, frankly, 4-6 months is rather reasonable. And FWIW, it took about 3 months and change for me from initial submission of my partial for Faerie Blood to receiving the offer to publish. That’s pretty speedy, especially when you think about how some of the big publishers can take upwards of a YEAR to get back to you. When I sent the book to Baen, they took that long just because their slush pile is gigantic.
And besides, it ain’t like I didn’t have other queries out in the meantime; I was querying agents right and left on another book, and trying to get editing done as well.
Regarding Drollerie’s royalties, it’s about 40 percent.
