Finally, Faerie Blood on Amazon & Fictionwise (sort of)

I now actually show up in the search results if you look for “Faerie Blood Angela Korra’ti” on Amazon. I have me an actual Amazon page right here. It says “not yet available” on it, though. Which is vexing, since neither my editor nor I know yet exactly when the book will be available!
Those of you who have read the book already, though, if you feel inclined, you can maybe start encouraging things along. Drop ratings up there, reviews, tags, whatever you feel is appropriate! Now that there’s an actual page there data can be added!
Meanwhile, over on Fictionwise, they think I’m on the way, too. Those of you who have accounts on that system, feel free to keep an eye there too!
More data on both of these when I have it.
Briefly, from last night

It was so brutally hot here in Kenmore last night that it was impossible for me to comfortably use my laptop. Which meant that I had to try writing on my iPhone. Newly-christened Mnemosyne was game for the task, but unfortunately, I wasn’t; I was so worn out from the heat that I had barely enough brain to manage taking a nice cool shower and then falling into bed.
I did at least manage to get out about a hundred words, though. Hopefully now that it seems to be cooling off, I can get back in gear tomorrow. Tonight’s been shot due to power outages and a sick cat.

My iPhone's official name: Mnemosyne!
| July 28, 2009 | Posted by annathepiper under Faerie Blood |
The poll to name my iPhone officially closed last night, and the winner of the poll was Mnemosyne! This means is the winner.
The companion contest is also therefore officially closed, and wins that for the in-character Petalwing portayal.
Y’all please to send me email at annathepiper AT gmail DOT com and let me know whether you would like a free copy of Faerie Blood, or else a free copy of the book of your choice from the Drollerie Press bookshop.
If you’d like Faerie Blood, please let me know your preferred format. If you’d like a different book, please let me know which one you’re interested in from the shop and I’ll set you up with a Drollerie gift certificate for the correct amount!
Thanks all for participating, and I’ll do another contest some time soon!
Out of brain. Stupid heat wave

I slept very poorly last night, which has meant that the words are not flowing like they should be tonight. But I was determined not to let this heat wave beat me–certainly not when it’s only just getting started–and so I wrenched out a couple hundred words anyway.
But now I desperately need sleep, and I’m off to get some.

Two days in a row!

It was a little bit less like pulling teeth today, getting the words out of my brain.
I’m learning all over again the same lesson I learned writing “The Disenchanting of Princess Cerridwen”, though, which is to say: writing short is hard. I keep having to rein myself in every time I catch myself thinking “but but but I should explain–” No, I tell myself, I shouldn’t. Not when I want to keep this word count down as much as possible. has given me a wide range of word count to play with, but I still want to come in closer to 5K than 25K if at all possible. Just to see if I can.
I’m already thinking I may not be able to, though. I’ve got this story more or less planned out, and if I write it according to my notes, it’ll come out longish anyway.
But first I have to write it. Two days in a row at 500+ words though does not suck.

More on the Civil War story
| July 25, 2009 | Posted by annathepiper under Short Pieces |
Tried to get myself in gear on the Civil War story today, since there’s a deadline coming up for this. And for the first time in some while, I’ve actually managed to write 500 new words on something. This feels good. Hope I can do it again tomorrow.

Seattle-area authors/publishing types, know about this?

Any of you have any experience with Northwest Bookfest, which I’m given to understand keeled over in 2003? I ask since pointed me at this article, describing rumblings about resurrecting it in 2010, as well as an attempt to do an unrelated event in 2009 by a gentleman who is calling back to the whole Bookfest thing.
I notice a distinct lack of SF/F-oriented names in the article, but I don’t know if that was part of the original Bookfest. Can anybody fill me in?

Y’all will have seen the post I put up yesterday for Cindy Lynn Speer (and if you haven’t, you should check it out).
Now, here’s the master post for all the summer-themed posts for this month’s blog tour! Y’all go check ‘em out and see what my fellow Drollerie authors have to say on the topic of summer.
Drollerie Blog Tour: Cindy Lynn Speer on being a summer girl
| July 21, 2009 | Posted by annathepiper under Drollerie Press |
Folks, it’s that time of the month again: the Drollerie Press Blog Tour! This time around our topic is summer, and I’m hosting Cindy Lynn Speer, the author of The Chocolatier’s Wife and other works. Y’all say hi! Cindy has the following to say about her post:
I am working on a new book, so Minerva Corvae, one of my main characters, wants to take over today’s blog post.
She’s a summer girl. And now I shall tell you why…and try to explain why I’m now a summer girl, too.
Enjoy!
Companion contest for naming my iPhone!
| July 20, 2009 | Posted by annathepiper under Faerie Blood |
Folks, I have decided to hold a companion contest to go along with the poll to name my iPhone! This one will be for everybody who did NOT get a name into the poll. However, what makes it a companion contest is that I want to see supporters for various names campaign for their favorites!
The original poll post is here. Check that out for the full list of names as well as the current voting results!
Rules as follows:
- The stakes are the same: the winner will receive either a copy of Faerie Blood, or, if he or she owns it already, a copy of the book of their choice from the Drollerie Press bookshop.
- Campaigns should be in the form of drabbles (100 words of prose, for those of you who don’t know that term), LOLpics (with or without cats), filks, rousing campaign speeches, or whatever else comes to mind! Bonus points if you invoke any of my known fandoms*. Extra bonus points if you invoke anything having to do with Faerie Blood, for those of you who have read it already.
- Campaigns must be for names that are in the actual poll. No fair campaigning for a name that’s not actually in the running!
- Please post your campaign material in the comments of this post (at angelakorrati.com, if you’re reading this on LJ or anywhere else I mirror to).
- If you have a name entered into the poll, you are not eligible to participate in this contest. You are however welcome to shamelessly rally your supporters to your cause!
- This contest will expire along with the poll one week from today on Monday, July 27th.
So get cracking, people, campaign season is ON!
* Good fandoms to invoke: Great Big Sea, Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, Elfquest, Pern, Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Star Wars, Star Trek (TOS), Temeraire, Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, zombies!
