He loved words, and always encouraged me to increase my vocabulary. He said it didn't matter what I used the words for, but that as long as I had them, I would be prepared for anything. He didn't get to see his only child succeed at any major achievements, like graduation from college, or me becoming a grandmother, but I'd like to think he'd be proud just the same.
